How does a Management District decide what to do? PDF Print E-mail

An important element in any District's management is their Service Plan--a required document the community helps prepare. That plan is updated based on public meetings and completely re-created on a schedule established by the legislature. Often a plan is prepared for a five-year period and updated or "tweaked" annually as a basis for the District's annual budget.

Cities and Counties typically prepare and follow a Capital Improvement Program (CIP). A District's Service Plan includes capital projects but identifies needs and services beyond physical installations.

Who paid for their public space upgrades? PDF Print E-mail

Many of the special amenities you see in other parts of Houston. e.g. Greenspoint, WestChase, Gallaria, downtown, were paid for by a separate entity - their Management District. In some cases they leveraged their limited funds in a partnership with a larger agency’s project. In most cases the projects would not have occured had a management district not been promoting the area and available to be part of the project.

Examples of those improvements are the unique lighting and silver arches in the Galleria area; the landscaped medians in FM-1942 (Westheimer); improved street lights; sidewalks in Greenspoint; wide, new sidewalks in downtown; and the professional ambiance in the Westchase area.

This is a grass roots organization where residents, businesses and professional and private organizations are working together under the umbrella of Renaissance 1960 Improvement Corporation to develop an urban plan with achievable projects that will improve the community at large and pursue those that are achievable by a private entity.

We are:

(1)  engaged in a wide variety of community revitalization projects benefitting the general public;

(2)  providing civic service educational opportunities for area students to be involved in their community revitalization efforts and;

Our Goal - To make a difference and nurture an area-wide culture of taking action to preserve and improve our quality of life.

Graffiti Removal PDF Print E-mail

Everyone that has successfully combated the graffiti bandits has done so by removal of their handy work as soon as possible. If no one sees it then they will move to somewhere else. Yes, it does not change their behavior unless everyone in many communities undertakes a rapid removal program and they graffiti bandits have to find something else to do. Maybe they will get a job.

Renaissance 1960 recognizes that some of the graffiti contains messages that our police can interpret to help solve crimes. We are working with the Sheriff's and Constable's Department to develop instructions of how citizens can support the police's effort to learn from the markings while removing them quickly to dissuade more graffiti staining our area.
