Urban Planning Workshops PDF Print E-mail

Renaissance 1960 kicked off the planning project with one of the leading urban planners in Houston--who grew up in the FM-1960 area--by holding two workshops for the busineses and residents in the area to identify the area's strenghts, weaknesses, opportunties and threats. The plan will address the urban environment that our area has become as well as serve as a business plan for supporting the businesses and residents.

When were the Workshops?Image

1.   Tuesday evening, May 13, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM

2.   Saturday morning, May 17, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

Where - The gymnasium at Northwoods Presbyterian Church
              3320 FM 1960 West
              Houston Texas 77068

After and introduction by Mary Davis of R1960 and explaination of the process by the planning consultant, Joe Webb, the participants in small groups at seperate tables began work. They identified the strenghts, weaknesses, opportunties and threats to the area by marking on maps at each table. The items and locations will be compiled in a list that will become one of the key elements in the formation of the plan.

Did you miss the sessions but want to have your ideas as part of the list? For a short time while the maps are being studied and summarized you can input the things you see as strengths, weaknesses, opportunties and threats at this web site. Click here or on the links on the home page to go to our forums and input your thoughts. You will not be able to use the markers on the maps like the workshop participants who enjoyed the refreshments and meeting new friends but your ideas will be part of the final plan and that is important.

What can you do? Tell your freinds, coworkers and include notices in your organization's newsletters about this effort. Tell a friend how important their input is to the future.

Below are photos from the workshops.
