Proposed Green Space Grant Program

• Project:  Develop and administer a Green Space Grant Program to assist new tenants or property owners to improve the green space next to the street.
• Purpose:  To improve the quality of the green shoulders of major thoroughfares in the District. The proven concept is that an improved area, that once was unkept, will increase adjacent property values and others to improve their shoulders and interior landscaping through peer pressure.
• Value:  A cleaner more orderly appearance at the entrance to retail properties that are behind the shoulder of the thoroughfare will increase sales and pride in the area. Often a new business venture does not include such amenities to be able to make the deal work and pay for necessities. The grants will encourage more interest in the area and “raise the bar” for the area’s appearance.
• Location:  Within the proposed district.
• Potential Partner: Property Owner 
• Cost:  After a property owner or tenant met the requirements of a prior Board-approved policy for grants then the Board will consider the request, need, benefits and other issues and decide if the grant will be offered. Once the improvements are in place the funds are provided by the District.
• Implementation:  Proposed as a first year project.
