The Vision and Goals are in draft form and were submitted to Renaissance 1960 Improvement Corporation and our elected officials by Joe Webb, Webb Architects, as a result of public input. 

Vision

     Revitalize and reinvigorate the 1960 Corridor
     Create a new image
     Enable a renaissance of the community

Attract new public and private capital investment, services and improvements – then supplement where appropriate.

Impact and change mobility – or the lack thereof – along the corridor. Set the stage for new options.

Maintain the corridor and the immediate surrounds as the premier northwest place to live, work, invest and recreate.

Bring continuous, focused and professional management towards the needs of the community.

Provide an equitable funding mechanism towards achieving those visions.

Goals: 

NOTE:  The goals are not necessarily listed in the order of importance.  They have not yet been prioritized.  This material is in DRAFT form.

Public Safety:

  1. Partner with the Sheriff, Constable, HPD and ISD Police Departments to impact crime and the perception of crime
  2. Employ a public safety coordinator
  3. Provide courtesy CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) inspections for commercial and multi-family facilities
  4. Seek grant funding for after-school programs within multi-family units
  5. Develop/enhance graffiti abatement programs
  6. Assist in selection of future law enforcement storefronts + facilities

Mobility:

  1. Change the Corridor to incorporate pedestrian and bicycle amenities
  2. Create both a short and long term transportation plan
  3. Impact the short trip traffic by providing mobility options
  4. Link the corridor to future and current high density transit options Coordinate all mobility plans – HGAC/County/COH/TxDOT
  5. Create a wayfinding system with consistent graphics + messages
  6. Advocate on-going + regular traffic analysis and subsequent signal timing

Environment and Urban Design:

  1. Create a master plan incorporating existing efforts (Green Median) + new initiatives (Pedestrian Pockets)
  2. Develop plans + strategies towards illegal signs + trash
  3. Inspect street lighting on main thoroughfares regularly
  4. Work with the County + City towards park, trail, open space development and enhancements

Business Development/Promotion:

  1. Commission a market analysis + economic redevelopment survey
  2. Act on the recommendations
  3. Support existing community forums with local leadership
  4. Encourage redevelopment and maintenance of multi-family facilities
  5. Encourage new commercial business location within the corridor
  6. Create a website and implement a public relations + image campaign
  7. Work with local education providers towards workforce education

Working Strategic Recommendations Outline

  1. Improve positive perception of the Corridor
  2. Improve or eliminate blighted or poorly maintained properties within the corridor
  3. Improve public services and infrastructure
  4. Encourage new development
  5. Focus attention on improvement in key locations
