Draft Public Safety Objective/Action Items

Note:  We believe it is important to note that we have shared this information with law enforcement, EMS officials and commercial property owner secruity personnel to gain their input.

Objective:

Security is a major concern of the community.  As such the District, in partnership with private and public law enforcement and safety professionals, will actively and aggressively pursue innovative public safety programs and initiatives.

Short Range Actions:

  • Establish a public safety task force to work directly with public and private sector law enforcement and safety professionals to pursue innovative public safety programs and initiatives
  • Create a plan to strategically install cost effective energy efficient lighting along the corridor to create a safer environment and positively impact public safety.
  • Develop and execute a plan that specifically addresses concerns regarding vagrancy and panhandling.
  • Develop and execute a plan for graffiti abatement throughout the District Boundaries.
  • Implement a recognition program that rewards all first responders-not only one person per month-to foster their individual ownership of our area.
  • Partner with private security providers, Sheriff’s department, Constable Precinct 4, DPS and HPD, Spring and Klein ISD Police Departments to improve District Safety
  • Partner with faith based organizations to target public safety initiatives.
  • Increase law enforcement visibility through providing operations support for additional law enforcement facilities.
  • Partner with public and private entities to create a plan for displaying property address signage in an aesthetically pleasing manner that also supports the efforts of first responders.
  • Provide courtesy CPTED review for commercial and multi-family properties to promote safety.
Long Range Actions:
  • Employ a Public Safety Coordinator with law enforcement background and who is CPTED certified.
  • Determine viability and effectiveness of district sponsored (contract) patrols.
  • Seek grant funding for after school programs for multi-family units.
  • Partner with local organizations to promote public safety initiatives.
  • Partner with law enforcement to create and implement a “Blue Star” type program for multi-family housing units in the ETJ.
  • Partner with Fire and EMS to evaluate and determine funding assistance for equipment related to mobility within the district boundaries.
  • Create a public-private partnership between law enforcement agencies to provide video monitoring of parking lots by police at storefronts and precinct offices using internet technologies.
