Draft Environment and Urban Design Objectives/Action Items

Objective:

The rapid growth of the FM 1960 Corridor in the past has given way in many areas to decline created through construction of low cost retail, unkempt parking lots and facades, unsightly signage, etc.  The corridor is the front door to many beautifully maintained subdivisions.  The District will serve as the facilitator and catalyst for the  redevelopment framework, creation of partnerships, coordination and advocacy for revitalization.

Short Range Actions:

  • Develop and implement a plan for continual removal of illegal signs and litter along the corridor and major intersecting thoroughfares.
  • Partner with COH and County to enforce on and off premise sign regulations and laws.
  • Develop and implement a plan to create attractive greenspace complementing the proposed median design concept along corridor (FM 1960) and at major intersections to enhance the attractiveness of the district through partnerships with HOA’s, MUD’s, TxDOT and commercial property owners.
  • Create and install a graphics package to clearly identify the District.
  • Implement a grant program to reclaim neglected greenspace as part of new owners reclaiming retail centers.
Long Range Actions
  • Develop a detailed long range plan for the area that ensures managed growth and helps guide reinvestment in the area.
  • Partner with public and private entities to positively impact preservation and development of additional greenspace including advocating for additional parks trails and related enhancements.
  • Through public and private partnerships plan for and implement beautification and streetscape improvements including sidewalks, lighting and enhanced bus shelters.
